When I was in the Navy, my sub stopped in Subic Bay for a couple weeks, and several of the crew bought cool-looking sword canes from a vender in Olongapo. Turns out, at the time, sword canes were illegal in the Philippines. The Guardia arrested a third of our crew. When they were brought before the magistrate, he just wanted somebody to grease his palm. If you’re ever in Olongapo, be aware, palm grease costs a couple hundred dollars a pop.
