You know… A lot of people think the biggest problem with the people in Lana’s world is idiocy, but I think it may be ego.
It’s one thing to be an idiot. It’s quite another to be an idiot and think you’re a genius.
(There is actually a psychological phenomenon called the Dunning–Kruger effect. To simplify part of it greatly, incompetent people tend to overestimate their competence and their ability to judge competence. Explains a lot, doesn’t it?)

That does make a disturbing amount of sense.
But then what about the apparently sufficiently intelligent to be considered dangerous scientist Lana was cozying up to, who actually believed her very shallow lies? (To wit, that Josh had mistaken Lana for someone else with the same name when he crashed through the wall of the room Lana and the scientist were … ‘entertaining each other’ in.)
Even smart people can become incompetent when the blood rushes away from their brain to another part of their body…
